History
“Origin of Our Community ”
The Franciscan Sisters pro Infante et Familia had its beginning from the Sisters’ Community of Seraphic Love Solothurn, Switzerland (SLS). It was founded by a couple, Doctor Fritz Spieler and Hilda Spieler-Meyer who were members of the Franciscan Third Order Secular of St. Francis of Assisi together with a Franciscan Capuchin priest, Fr. Florian Walker who gave them the spiritual guidance and assistance.
The Philippine foundation started in Cebu City, Philippines on September 17, 1979 with four Filipina and two Swiss Sisters.
On November 9, 2015, the SLS petitioned the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CICLSAL) in Rome for the autonomy and separation of FSpIF from SLS and its erection as a Society of Apostolic Life with canonical status. Subsequently, on March 19, 2017, Joāo Braz Cardinal de Aviz, Prefect of the Dicastery of the CICLSAL, issued a Decree granting the canonical separation of the FSpIF from the SLS and its erection as a Society of Apostolic Life of diocesan right in the Archdiocese of Cebu, Philippines.
